Lorelay Bové, an illustrator with extensive experience in the field of technique and many works in The Walt Disney Studio Animation, will teach you how to make a iconic character like Snow White from beginning to end.

You will can see how to treat the light correctly, how to combine warm and cold tones in a balanced way, how to develop a scenario that allows the character to be integrated, to give value to the light and the dress of the figure, we will play with the texture and learn how we should apply suitably the brushstroke with the pressure, rhythm and humidity recommended by Lorelay.

What this course includes?

Lorelay will start showing what are the materials to use during the course, which are her favorite on a day to day basis when working, and what is her creative process.
Then she will show how to work the drawing, the line and the contours.

From there, you can see how to apply the colors with a review, as we move forward, on the correct balance in the application of the cold and warm range of tones.

Then you can continue with the color, its temperature, the treatment of textures in the dressing room or the measured play of light and shadow. Scenario and background will take shape as we progress too.

In the same way you can see how Lorelay uses the palette or how often, intensity and humidity she applies the gouache with the brush.

In short, Lorelay’s knowledge, advice and suggestions so that you learn to master the technique of gouache and you give your illustrations a new value and personality directly connected with her artistic sensibility.

Purpose of the courses

During this course you can learn to apply color to a story charancter using traditional gouache techniques on paper. This process will be carried out from beginning to end. Throughout the more than 2 hours of the course you will be able to contemplate a continuous demonstration of Lorelay, in addition to an explanation and breakdown of his entire process in simple steps that allow you to apply these ideas after your own work.

All this, to be able to contribute a greater understanding to your personal creative process once the whole process is finished.

Who these are for?

This course is aimed at artists or painters, hobbyists or professionals who want to know techniques, resources and procedures to learn, improve or develop their talent in the field of traditional illustration.

Requirements

Personal computer or tablet to view the videos. It is also possible to use a smartphone, although we recommend larger screen sizes that allow you to better appreciate the details. On the other hand, each one will be able to make use of the preferred pictorial material to carry out the practices, although we recommend paper, pencils and markers to start the illustration with traditional techniques. In short, all the materials recommended by Loralay Bové for the illustration during the entire tutorial process.

The materials, we reiterate, are recommended. You can do the tutorial without all the materials or in formats other than those oriented in the videos.

The important thing is to practice, practice and re-practice the exercise proposed by the teacher.

About the artist

Lorelay Bové

Lorelay Bové

1982, illustrator and designer

Lorelay Bové was born in Spain and raised in the Principality of Andorra between France and Spain.

She moved with her family to Los Angeles when she was 14 years old and is fulfilling a childhood dream of being an artist at the Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Educated at the prestigious California Institute for the Arts, a school founded by Walt Disney to foster young creative talent, this exciting young artist has made an impact on the art and animation world almost immediately upon her arrival.

After making her entry into the animation industry as an art intern at Pixar Animation Studios, Lorelay quickly transitioned into her current role as a Visual Development Artist at Walt Disney Animation Studios.

She has worked on The Walt Disney Animation Studios musical comedy "The Princess and the Frog" doing visual development, color characters and costumes, props, backgrounds and end credit sequence art and designs.

Lorelay has also worked on Tangled, as well as Tangled ever after short, on the short "the Ballad of Nessie", Winnie the Pooh, Prep and Landing ,on "wreck it Ralph" doing visual development as the lead designer in "Sugar rush", and on "Big Hero 6" as a visual development artist.

Her inspiration include her father who is an artist in his own right, as well as her tight knit family, Disney classic films, old Hollywood movies and her native Spain and travels.

Bové has also illustrated the "Toy Story" picture book ,"The Princess and the Frog" Little Golden Book, the "wreck it Ralph" Little golden book , the "Monsters University Fearbook" picturebook, and Disney animation studios Artist showcase series "No Slurping, No Burping".
