Cesc Farré is a “Mediterranean” graphic artist and architect specialized in the technique of watercolor. The sea and the water, the light and the color, are part of the way that he conceives the plastic expression. Through two works made by himself, step by step, Farré will explain the fundamentals of this pictorial procedure where the seascape takes on a life of its own through the play of transparencies and prints, of light and colors.

During more than 3 and a half hours of teachings by Cesc Farré we can learn:

  • Give importance to the value of humidity.
  • Treatment of foam and waves
  • Reflections and refractions of light.
  • Shadows and their incidents.
  • Tones of sand, rocks and surfaces.
  • The right color temperatures.

About the artist

Cesc Farré

Cesc Farré

Terrassa 1972, Barcelona, Spain

Architect by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC, Spain). His artistic training, especially the watercolor technique, has been closely related to the graphic expression and illustration of architectural heritage.

Currently, he combines teaching watercolor at school with master classes and workshops around the world with research.

He is part of the group of watercolors of Catalonia, SDWS and is an international art jury.

It is considered Mediterranean. This fact is naturally reflected in the light and color of his watercolors, but also in the contrast and structured gesture with the drawing and composition. He uses the white of the sheet a lot in his proposals and usually mixes colors directly on the paper to give maximum transparency and brightness. Works with natural hair brushes on fine-grained cotton paper with high-quality pigments.

Its methodology is based on a specific study of what it represents, sketches "in situ" and outdoors and an additional study based on all the material. He is passionate about nature, so he can define me as a landscaper, a subject in which he has specialized for a few years.

He is especially inspired by water and its states, especially in the seascape.
